The world's most valuable scale model brands
Not every scale model is a good investment. The market is broad, ranging from cheap toy models to handmade masterpieces worth thousands of euros. We buy collections every day and see exactly which brands hold their value and which do not. Here is our honest overview of the most valuable brands.
CMC: the absolute pinnacle
CMC (Classic Model Cars) from Germany makes handmade scale models of pre-war and classic racing cars. Each model is produced in a limited run and contains thousands of individual parts. Prices of €400 to €1,500 per model are normal. CMC models consistently increase in value.
Exoto: rare and valuable
Exoto is an American brand that produces exceptionally detailed race cars in 1:18. Production is extremely limited, making sold-out models scarce. Exoto Ferrari and Porsche racing cars regularly fetch €400 to €1,200 at auction.
BBR: Italian craftsmanship
BBR (Best Brand Replicas) is an Italian manufacturer specialising in 1:43 Ferrari models. Each model is handmade and produced in a very limited run. BBR models are timelessly popular with Ferrari collectors and hold their value exceptionally well.
AUTOart Signature Series
AUTOart's premium line offers the best price-to-quality ratio in the high-end segment. Signature Series models of popular cars hold their value well and are tradeable internationally. Price range: €150 to €400.
Kyosho Samurai and 1:12 series
Kyosho's premium Samurai line and the rare 1:12 models are highly sought after internationally. In particular, the Japanese sports car models (Nissan GT-R, Honda NSX, Toyota Supra) have increased strongly in value in recent years.
Minichamps: value in the details
Not every Minichamps model is valuable, but the right models (rare Formula 1 editions, Paul's Model Art and dealer exclusives) can achieve surprisingly high prices. The knowledge lies in knowing which model it is.
Brands that hold little value
For comparison: brands such as Maisto, Bburago, Welly and most Hot Wheels and Matchbox models retain almost no value. We generally do not purchase these brands. They are toys, not collectibles.
