What determines the value of scale models?
Brand & manufacturer
Top brands such as CMC, Exoto, BBR and MR Models retain their value better than entry-level brands. AUTOart and Kyosho are in between.
Original packaging
A model in the original box is 30 to 50% more valuable than the same model without a box. So always keep boxes.
Condition
Mint in box (unplayed, originally packaged) is the highest condition. Damage, dust or light scratches affect value, but we also buy used models.
Rarity
Limited editions and sold-out series increase in value. The smaller the edition, the more a collector is willing to pay.
Indicative values by brand
Handmade, hundreds of parts per model. Highest value retention of all brands.
No longer in production. Value is steadily rising due to scarcity.
Handmade in Italy, limited editions. Ferrari models most sought after.
Italian resin replicas of supercars. Sells out quickly, then rises rapidly in value.
Wide collection, good quality. Value depends on model and condition.
Japanese quality. Limited editions and Japanese classics are most valuable.
