Ferrari scale models: which manufacturers make them best?
Ferrari is by far the most collected car brand in the world of scale models. Almost every manufacturer of any standing has Ferrari models in its range. But there are large quality differences, and therefore large value differences. In this article we compare the most important manufacturers that make Ferrari models and explain which are worth the most when selling.
BBR: the specialist for Ferrari 1:43
BBR is to Ferrari 1:43 what CMC is to the pre-war class: the absolute pinnacle. Italian craftsmanship, official Ferrari collaboration and production runs of sometimes only 100 pieces make BBR Ferrari models the most sought-after in this segment. Values range between €150 and €600, sometimes higher for early editions.
Hot Wheels Elite: accessible Ferraris in 1:18
Hot Wheels Elite (formerly Mattel) produced Ferrari models in 1:18 for many years under an official licence. Models such as the F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari appeared in multiple versions. Production has ceased, meaning sold-out editions fetch €80 to €200 at resale depending on the model and condition.
Exoto: Ferrari racing cars at the highest level
For Ferrari racing cars in 1:18, Exoto is the undisputed champion. Their 250 GTO, 312 F1 and Testa Rossa models are extraordinarily detailed. Due to extremely limited production runs, sold-out editions rise in price. Expect €400 to €900 for an Exoto Ferrari in perfect condition.
MR Models and Looksmart: contemporary 1:18 top quality
MR Models (also known as MR Collection) and Looksmart are Italian manufacturers that produce handmade Ferrari models in 1:18 for the absolute top end of the market. These are newer but also immediately rare due to small production runs. Prices range between €300 and €800.
Minichamps: F1 Ferraris in 1:43
For Formula 1 Ferraris, Minichamps is the most complete manufacturer. Limited driver-specific editions and Paul's Model Art versions are the most valuable. Regular versions have limited value, but the rare editions can fetch €100 to €300.
